  1. Didn't Help AT ALL

Posted by Unknown on 1st Feb 2012

I must be a minority here... I'm mathematically/scientifically minded; I'm an A-student in English, but can't stand it...

I read all the text in this book and didn't understand a thing. It seems the author just rambled on about how great their confusing examples were... I closed the book at the end with absolutely no comprehension. However, I used CollegePlus! LearningNetwork and passed first try, 57.

  2. Helped me pass with a 77/80

Posted by Jazmin V. Hupp on 16th Nov 2011

I highly recommend this book. I studied for 2-3 weeks before I took the CLEP and I got a 77. The book's CD had great practice tests. They were actually a little harder than the real test.

  3. As good a value as available

Posted by Robert Taraskiewicz on 16th Nov 2011

I just took my test and received a 69 after 2 weeks of study. Mind you I took the downloaded practice test (from CLEP) and passed, and then with these 2 test scored under 50%. This caused a little anxiety so I really made an effort to pay attention to the notes and definitions they provided. Along with the coaching on question types, I felt a lot more confident. One of the passages actually was on the test. If you want to pass, unless you are an uber genius, you really need to spend some time getting in the mode of test taking, and with the practice tests included, this book will get you there. In my opinion this book pays for itself, a cheap alternative considering the time and costs of college credits.

  4. great test prep

Posted by J. Hannig on 16th Nov 2011

This book is a great prep for the clep. The reading material in the book isn't critical except for the 3 pages terms you need to memorize. AGREED the practice tests in this book are more difficult than the actual clep so if you can pass the practice tests you're pretty much guaranteed to pass the clep. My scores: PT1:49, PT2:53, PT3:52, CLEP Test:64

I studied for about a week and a half with little prior literature knowledge. Book helped most by telling you what terms to know and by explaining answers to practice test questions.

  5. Good study guide, do the questions

Posted by Jacques the Rock on 16th Nov 2011

Ok, I took this CLEP test today. I used this book and read the material then took the first of the three practice tests. I then went through the answers to the 1st practice test and followed it up by taking the practice test in the CLEP official study guide 17th edition. I spent 3 to 4 hours in the material total and scored a 68. The practice test from this book was harder then the real test, however I was down to 1 minute and 30 seconds left for test time, so watch your clock on the real test. This test can be accomplished, I believe, with just this book. To speed up your study time, skim the reading in this book for just the bold faced terms and then spend your time in the practice tests and be sure to review your answers. This book will not give you the question or the answers to the real test, but you'll know what to expect and if you have good test taking skills you should do well. Good luck.

  6. Easiest 6 credits ever!

Posted by Kristina Marie on 14th Feb 2011

I had originally planned on take generalized "Humanities" to get my humanities credits. I started reading the book and quickly felt over my head. I then fell upon information that suggested this book as a alternative. I quickly purchased the book and started reading! The book is not loaded with too much information nor is the subject material hard. It helped to guide your insight to help you comprehend literary text very comprehensively. I passed the exam with flying colors. I couldn't be happier with the purchase!
